Vanishing 4.0 is both an interactive boat installation and a performance movement piece, shaped by the audience’s contributions. Audience members are invited to contribute meaning to and take meaning from the installation by means of tangible objects.
Audience members are encouraged to bring pieces of their artistic practice, be it an object, a picture, or a piece of writing. Then, from the installation, they take small pieces of pre-existing writing. Based on the objects, and with the guidance of the performer, the audience creates a poem together. The performer improvises a movement piece to that poem. This piece reimagines how the diaspora creates solidarity in circumstantial community by calling their individual pasts forward and creating new meaning in conversation with others.
